- ORPHEUS Version 1.41
-
- Orpheus is an advanced, writer-friendly authoring system for makers of
- online manuals and tutorials, electronic books, and all other kinds of
- hypertext writing. Whether you are a veteran of hypertext or a first-
- time author, Orpheus can help you get those great ideas out of the air
- and into silicon.
-
- The system consists of two programs: Orpheus Author, an Integrated
- Development Environment for hypertext writers; and the Orpheus Reader,
- a program for you to distribute with your finished books in compiled
- form. Orpheus Author requires a hard disk; the Reader does not.
-
- This package should include the following files:
-
- On Disk 1:
- README ....................... this file
- OH.EXE ....................... Orpheus Author
- WHATS.NEW .................... new features, fixes
- VENDOR.TXT ................... info for shareware vendors
- REGISTER.DOC ................. order form
- On Disk 2:
- MANUAL1.DOC .................. manual/tutorial on OH.EXE
- MANUAL2.DOC .................. guide to Orpheus Command Lang.
- OH.HLP ....................... its online help
- On Disk 3:
- OHREAD.EXE ................... the Orpheus Reader
- OHREAD.HLP ................... its online help
- INTRO.HTX .................... demo book to read with Reader
- INTR_.1 ...................... part of demo book
- WORLDMAP.PCX ................. shown in demo
- HOME16.PCX ................... shown in demo
- FLAGS.ANS .................... shown in demo
- SHOWRUN.BAT .................. called by demo
-
- The sample electronic book "Introducing Orpheus" demonstrates some of
- the system's principle features. To read it, give the following command
- at the DOS prompt:
- ohread intro.htx [Enter]
-
- The Orpheus Reader can be run directly from the floppy, though you may
- wish to make a backup first. Please note however that the authoring
- program (OH.EXE) requires a hard disk. To install the entire system,
- simply copy all three disks into a single directory on your hard drive.
-
- Orpheus is distributed as shareware and costs $49. You are welcome to
- evaluate Orpheus for up to 30 days, after which you are expected to
- register the software if you wish to continue using it. You are also
- welcome to make copies for friends or to upload it to BBS's, provided
- you share only the complete, unaltered system as you received it.
-
- For a comprehensive introduction to Orpheus, including tutorials on how
- to create hypertext and produce fine electronic books, see MANUAL1.DOC.
- For information on our official support BBS (where you can obtain free
- updates), see below. For an order form that will help me serve you better,
- see REGISTER.DOC. For someone who will be happy to hear your comments
- and suggestions, write to me (Rod Willmot) at the address below:

- not compatible with this version of the Orpheus Reader. If you are
- updating from an earlier version, please read the WHATS.NEW file.
-
- SUPPORT BBS:
- Yes, Orpheus now has an official support BBS, thanks to Synapse, a 20-line
- BBS located in Gatineau, Quebec (Canada). To obtain the latest version
- of Orpheus or to leave messages in the Orpheus Support conference (#1022),
- have your computer call one of the numbers below. When prompted for
- your name, enter "ORPHEUS USER". When prompted for your password, enter
- "VISITOR". Synapse will grant you immediate download privileges. Since
- all Orpheus files will begin with the letters "ORPH", look for the latest
- version by giving the command "L ORPH*.*" (meaning Locate all Orpheus
- files).
